Purpose to separate criminals from society lost with recovery of mobile from jail on second consecutive day
Ferozepur, May 10, 2020: On a tip-off with the jail authorities, one mobile has been recovered from the prisoner under trial but it has left a question mark on the security arrangements at the entry points.
The purpose of imprisonment is to separate criminals from society and these phones wipe that away as one can access anything on the internet which poses an enormous and growing challenge for the jail authorities. The smuggling in of mobiles in the jail are made through the number of means, hiding in private parts, mix up in the material allowed inside the jail on mulaqat, sometimes with the connivance of jail staff with a low-risk high-profit venture, throwing from the high rising building being in the thickly populated area now. But so far it has become difficult to prove to smuggle. The solution, some have suggested, is to jam phone signals in prisons, making the phones useless.
Frequent recovery of mobiles, on the second day today, speaks of the cracks at the checking points.
Giving the details, Sharma Singh IO appointed to enquire into the incident of smuggling in of the mobile said, a case on the complaint of Harbhajan Lal, Asstt. Supdt. Central Jail has been registered against Banti of Basti Awa prisoner under trial and booked under Section 52-A of Prisons Act.
However, further investigations are on with a focus on smuggling in of mobile, its usage and contacts with a specific intention.
