Skill Development Centre opened at Pojo Ke Uttar

Ferozepur, May 18, 2016 :  Today, Punjab’s first Rural Skill Development Centre, under  Border Area Development Scheme, was inaugurated by Er.DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur at village Pojo Ke Uttar in Ferozepur, situated just near the Indo-Pak border.

Opening of Hunar Vikas Kendra – Skill Development Centres – a concept by Er.DPS Kharbanda – is to provide three months’ skill trainings to unemployed youths – both boys and girls – in different trades – manufacturing of school bags, fashion designing, AC/Refrigerator, Car AC Repair etc so that they may become self-dependent after setting up their own establishment.  There is also provision for bank loan on subsidy with nominal interest of 4%.

In the second phase, two more centres will be opened at village Katora and Chak Mahnta Wala in the next week.

In the seven such centres in the district, the training is provided by expert masters in different trains on modern technology machines, free of cost and so far 2189 unemployed youths have been trained and earning Rs.10,000 to Rs.15,000 per month, said Mr.Gandhi, Incharge, North India Technical Consultancy Organisation (NITCON).

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner, distributed cheques to 25 trained youths for purchase of machinery to start their own business.

Speaking on the occasion, Er.DPS Kharbanda Deputy Commissioner said, “Despite the fact that the zeal exists in Punjabis, they have forgotten to work hard. Lethargy is our own enemy.  The Skill Development Centres are just the start-up for the educated youths to start their own business so that no one may sleep hungry”.

He further said, the aim of government, is as to how the life of youths can be changed.  It could only be possible if youths have the lust and will to learn the skill to earn.

Advising the trainees, he said, in this money-orientated world, where there is no money, there is distress.  Both, hell and paradise are on this planet earth and only the inner feelings can bring a sea-change.

In these SDCs, the production of school bags in the first phase and uniform in the second phase will be arranged and its orders will be procured by the education department from the adjoining schools.

Expressing his hope, Er.Kharbanda said, on my next visit to the village after the completion of three months training, your intensions should itself speak.

Sundeep Singh Garha, SDM – speaking on the opening of development centres – said, it is big milestone for the development of the border area.  He advised the youths to understand the necessity of the time, learn the skill and earn by becoming self-dependent. He made it clear that only those persons have progressed, who had the will to learn and work.

DB Chandan, Chairman, District Planning Board while sharing his views said, the society will improve only if we all will involve ourselves for the welfare of the youths – the future of the country.

It was a concept about one years’ back which dream has been fulfilled today with the opening of SDC in the rural area at Pojo Ke Uttar said, Pargat Singh Brar, Deputy DEO(P).

Surinder Singh Baboo, Vice President, Cantonment Board, conveyed his thanks to the district administration for opening Skill Development Centre in the cantonment area.

Hansa Singh Sarpanch also thanked the district administration for starting the first rural skill development centre by NITCON – a joint venture of IFCI, SIDBI, State Level Corporation and Public Sector Banks at Pojo Ke Uttar in Mamdot block in Ferozepur district and making available the maximum loans under DRI.

Mukhtiar Singh Gill, Chairman Panchayat Samiti too thanked the deputy commissioner for feeling the pulse of the people leaving near the barbered wire at the Indo-Pak war.  Praising the DC, he said, There are men and men everywhere, but Er.Kharbanda is very rare”.

He further said, with getting the skill training to earn – especially the girls – will have due respect at their in-laws after marriage being a earning hand.

Ashwani Kumar, Lead Bank Manager said, there is no problem in getting financed for the project but the only condition is that it should be paid timely and regularly besides using it for the purpose it has been obtained.

The trainees – Manjinder Singh, Seema Rani – with the opening of SDCs, they will have earning opportunities.
