Ferozepur, July 3, 2015: Beware of false publicity regarding drugs in Punjab on social media and recovered drug addict youths and villages will be presented as Role Model, said Paramraj Singh Umranangal, IG Punjab while presiding over the Zonal Level Seminal organized to embrace with the recovered drug addicts and motivate others to shun the social evil.
Addressing the huge gathering of youths, sarpanch from the villages and representatives of various NGOs, Umranangal said, the Punjab Police has first fought with the terrorism and brought peace by giving sacrifices. He said, now the police have taken the task to give a push to the drive for once again by organizing police-people contact programme. He also appealed to the people to remain beware of false publicity regarding drugs in Punjab on social media. Keep a strong desires and make habit of doing the work, he added.
He further said that now the drugs in Punjab are at fag end and all must extend cooperation with the police.
He expressed his pleasures over the assurance of drug free villages under 128 panchayat including the one panchayat – Kulgarhi – presented an affidavit to this effect during the seminar.
We do receive calls from various quarters but there is no pressure from higher levels to give favour, he admitted.
DIG Ferozepur Range, Amar Singh Chahal said, the police will honour the villages which are drug-free and recovered drug addict youths will be presented as role model before the society.
H.S.Maan, SSP in his address said, in all 5,982 drug cases have come up during the last year and presently only 911 patients are under treatment in the district. An awareness is being created among the people by organizing ‘nukkad’ dramas, meetings, seminars, he added.
On this occasion, the recovered drug addicts – Nitin Gupta, Gora and others shared their experience with the audience. Nitin Gupta said, like the first love, one cannot forget the pleasures of drugs but it is not that hard to shun the menace provide one has the ‘will power’.
Among others intellectuals, NGOs addressed were Ninder Ghugianvi, Dr.Satinder Singh, National Awardee, Dr.Rameshwar Singh, Harish Monga, Abhishek Arora, Gurdial Singh Virk, Lakhbir Singh, SP(H), Dr.Rachna Mittal.
Power point presentation on ill effect on use of drugs was given by Parvinder Singh from Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle with special reference to recovered drug addicts – Better Late Than Never. While Gugianvi-a Punjabi scholar and author of about 40 books, lashed out at dress sense and vulgarity in Punjabi songs.
