PSU demands display o Bhagat Singh's pistol at their hide-out place in Ferozepur
Ferozepur May 24, 2017: The Punjab Students Union and Researcher on the activities of Bhagat Singh and author of various books, have claimed that the historic pistol of legendary martyr Bhagat Singh should be displayed at their hiding place at Toori Bazar Ferozepur, which has since been declared as heritage to be converted into library and museum.
The weapon was used to kill British Officer John Saunders in 1928 by Bhagat Singh was believed to be missing for 88 years and was seen one of the two revolutionaries Jai Gopal in Ferozepur, has ultimately reached at the Border Security Force headquarter from Indore and is likely to be exhibited in a week at the BSF museum Hussainiwala, 11 KM from here.
In fact, when the pistol was located when a news in this regard was published in the daily paper. With the follow up at various levels, a request for the pistol was put in for by the BSF and was brought to the Central School of Weapons & Tactics , Indore, on October 7, 1969, along with seven other firearms from the Punjab Police Academy in Phillaur, where it had been since 1944, say 3 years before Partition, after being received from the officials in Lahore.
However, according to a senior BSF official, an order has been placed to prepare a ‘show case’ to keep the pistol in the museum. The same will be ready in a week and the weapon will be honorably exhibited at Hussainiwala where the BSF has already set-up its museum near the retreat ceremony Joint Check Post.
Added here, the inauguration of the museum is waiting from Rajnath Singh, Home Minister which could not be finalized with one or the other reason and is not open to the public. Now the inauguration is expected by the Home Minister, one the Bhagat Singh’s pistol is displayed at the museum.
In the meantime, Rajinder Singh, President, Punjab Students Union and local researcher Rakesh Kumar, an employee in the Northern Railway have demanded to display the historical pistol at the hiding place of revolutionaries in Toori Bazar in Ferozepur.
It is pertinent to mention that the government has already issued a notification on December 25, 2015 declaring the hide-out place as heritage. The people of Ferozepur have demanded to convert this place of revolutionaries into Museum and Library by taking its possession and display the pistol for visitors, which will go a long way in promoting tourism in this border town, besides putting wiser the young generation about the sacrifices of martyrs for the freedom of India.
