Protest against demonetization in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, December 16, 2016: Even after lapse of 8 days of announcement of demonetization by the Prime Minister, the media has been occupied with number of stories of suffering not only on the part of the common man but also those occupying the corridors of power are affected by a decision, besides recovery of huge unaccounted old currency and new notes. One incident of traffic jam on Ferozepur-Moga road near Ferozshah, 19 km from Ferozepur, was noticed at the Punjab National Bank branch when common men standing in queue lost their patience.
Since the announcement of surprise demonetization, on November 8, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is in an uproar since the derecognition of Rs.500 and Rs.100 notes of Indian Currency as legal tender.
India has attempted to demonetize in a professed bid to tackle the issue of black money in the country, unlike the last time under Prime Minister Moraji Desai in 1978, this time the Reserve Bank of India’s governor Urjit Patel is in full support of the decision and has called it a bold move.
The people standing in the queue for hours together alleged for non availability of cash while the bank officials are making accessible cash to the influential persons.
The protesters blamed the Bank Manager and other employees for discriminating with the common men in providing the cash to them. They demanded from the police and senior bank officer to take action against the guilty by the bank officials, by viewing the CCTV footages of the bank.
Few among the protesters were Jeeta Malik, Bhola Ferozshah, Gursewak Singh Tehekedar, Suba Singh Bhamba Landa and others.
SHO Pippal Singh, Ghall Khurd Police station, reached the spot immediately on getting the information and managed to clear the jam by discussing with the protesters and bank officials.
The Bank Manager could not be contacted to know the factual position resorting to traffic jam on the highway.
