Political parties not to play ‘Community Card’ in Guruharsahai constituency
Ferozepur, September 24, 2016: Come elections and all political parties have started alluring the people with their different activities in view of coming Assembly elections in early 2017.
Normally it is said that religion should not be mixed the politics and this time it looks to be a reality in Guruharsahai constituency when the political parties will not play ‘community card’ this time.
In Guruharshai, Vardev Singh Mann, Halqa Incharge of the ruling party SAD-BJP alliance and Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, present Congress MLA from Guruharsahai are up in their arms to contest the coming Assembly elections on their party tickets.
On the other hand, the new political party actively surfaced Aam Aadmi Party – in this constituency by Gurmit Singh Brar, too have started its door-to-door campaign. Earlier, Dr.Malkit Thind has also worked to strengthen the party but now he is meeting the people at his own.
Active leader of AAP, Gurmit Brar during his daily tour to dozens of villages is associating the people with the party and his team is also covering around 20 villages on daily basis with the result the image graph in the eyes of people of the area is having upward trend on day to day basis.
During the last two months working by Brar in the border belt, there is outrage among the opposition parties with the support of Rai Sikh community. In the next announcement of tickets by AAP, the name of Gurmit Brar is likely to figure despite the fact that two more candidates including Dr.Malkit Thind are in queue for the ticket from Guruharsahai.
However, as per the ‘flying-bird’ sources, it looks that AAP is going to give a tough fight to Congress and Akali Dal but it all depends upon the release of final list.
So far as the standing of Gurmit Brar is concerned, he has a distinction in Punjab in the field of sports and has a good standing service career in Cooperative Agriculture which could help him in planning election campaign amd arrangements. and All this confirms his claim for the ticket from AAP as per the three C’s norm –Character, Corruption and Crime free person.
Sources also said, that in case Brar is considered for candidate by AAP, there are chances of support from NRIs which would be beneficial for the party.
Nodoubt, there is a vote bank of Kamboj community in Guruharsahai constituency but according to the intellectuals and old timers, this time the community card is not going to have any impact. If the vote bank of Kamboj Sikh and Kamboj Chaudhary is separately, the Valmiki votes come at the third place whereas majority of the Rai Sikh community vote bank is at first position followed by Jat Sikh vote bank.
It is pertinent to mention here that equation of votes depends upon the liking the leader by the Jat Sikh and Rai Sikh of the area. But Congress and Akali Dal had never given the ticket to Kamboj community from Guruharsahai.
As of now, Gurmit Singh Brar of AAP is at the top and in case his candidature is confirmed, then new equations have to be calculated for Guruharsahai constituency.
