Police unfolds blind murder mystery of Guruharsahai

FEROZEPUR: A man and his wife, blinded of lust for property, have been arrested for allegedly getting his father killed in a village of Guru Har Sahai, a subdivision of Ferozepur district.

According to information, on April 25, Piyar Kaur, wife of Amrik Singh of Guru Har Sahai village in Guru Har Sahai subdivision informed the police that, on the night of April 24, three unidentified people came to their house and called her husband Amrik Singh outside on the excuse of some work.

In the meantime, an argument ensued among them and her husband was attacked by the three strangers with sharpedged weapons, she added.

Somehow, Amrik succeeded to free himself from them and hurriedly entered a room of his house and bolted the room from inside. He was so scared that he did not open the door even when the attackers had gone and she asked him to open the door. Later, she broke a window of the room with the help of villagers and brought him out. However, he was seriously injured.

Later on, the victim was moved to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, but he succumbed to his injuries there.

Meanwhile, the police registered a case under section 302/34 of the IPC and a team, led by Sulakhan Singh, DSP, started investigations in the case.

During probe, it was revealed that the victim had 21 acres of land and he gave seven acre each to his son Mehar Singh and his grandson Gurlal Singh (son of Buta Singh, who had expired) and kept the rest seven acres with him after preparing a will.

Later on, relations between Amrik Singh and Mehar Singh turned sour and Amrik Singh allegedly planned to cancel the will to take back seven acres of land from Mehar.

Mehar reportedly got furious over this and allegedly hatched a plan to murder his father.

He, along with his wife Lakhwinder Kaur, discussed the matter with an alleged Naxalite Harnek Singh of Sahan village in Guru Har Sahai.

Harnek struck a deal with Mehar and his wife to eliminate Amrik Singh for `6 lakh and also took `20,000 as advance. Harnek allegedly involved Gurpreet Singh of Chappati village and Sukhmander Singh of Kri Klan in the murder plan and promised to pay them `2 lakh each and the three made attacked Amrik Singh on April 24 night.

Hardiyal Singh Mann, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Ferozepur, all the five accused including Mehar, Lakhwinder, Harnek, Sukhmander Singh and Gurpreet Singh, a college student, have been arrested and the sharp-edged weapons, a bike and a car used in the crime murder seized from them. A sum of `10,000 out of the `20,000 paid in advance has also been recovered.
