Ferozepur December, 18,2015 : The Ferozepur police on getting tip-off during the routine patrolling raided the Central Jail premises and recovered two mobiles from one of the jail inmate, who is already booked under NDPS Act.

The inmate has been identified as Gurdev Singh son of Banta Singh a resident of village Rasulpur, Makhu, as per the crime report released by the police.  The convict Gurdev Singh who was earlier booked under NDPS Act few years ago and at present serving his term in the jail.

According to Jatinder Singh, SI investigating into the case said the police had received the secret information that Gurdev Singh was running a drug racket from jail premises through the mobile network. Two Samsung brand mobiles were recovered at the time of raid but no drugs were found from him, he added.

Jail Superintendent, S.S.Saini confirmed that jail authorities will also look into incident as to how the mobile phones have reached inside the jail premises.

Since no drugs have been recovered from Gurdev Singh, the running of drug racket at this stage cannot be confirmed. However, the jail staff will help in the probe.

However, on getting secret information and recovery of mobiles from the person already booked under NDPS Act, the running of some illegal business from inside the jail and involvement of jail staff, cannot be ruled out.

The police have registered a case against Gurdev Singh accused under 66-C IT Act 2000, 52-A Prisoners Act 1894

It is added here that Central jail has past history of recovery of mobile phones and supply of SIM cards being used by the inmates. During August 2014, the police had cracked a gang running drug peddling racket from the jail premises and during September 2014, three persons including two women, were arrested for supplying SIM Cards in jail and in June 2013, five mobiles were recovered from the jail barrack.
