Phone usage continues unabated in Ferozepur Jail, 5 mobiles 2 charger unearthed
Ferozepur, August 11, 2023: Despite tight security at the entry points and outside the jail, the entry of mobiles, the most wanted banned item, to remain connected with the outer world, is a continued process as five mobiles and two chargers were seized on Friday, during the two separate search operations. But the purpose of keeping the criminals behind the bar as per the punishment or during the under trial period, is lost as the inmates make misuse of the device with vested interests, giving threats and running of gangs for illegal purposes.
Added here, more than 250 mobiles have been recovered so far during the current year from inside the jail during various search operations from the jail inmates or lying unclaimed. Recently, one mobile was also recovered from the possession of gangster inmate. The connivance of the jail staff including the hospital officials cannot be ruled out as in the past there was arrest on recovery of banned items being smuggled inside the campus, by the alter jail staff, for personal gains.
Surfacing of throwing of packets over the 30 ft high walls, entry of mobiles and other banned items inside the jail, it remained a question mark on the security arrangements of the jail which need to be tightened to check this menace. Need to use the Non-Linear Junction(NLJ) Detectors quickly detect and locate hidden electronic devices such as SIM cards and cell phones, regardless of whether the electronic target is radiating, hard-wired, or turned off. They are ideal for searching secure areas for hidden or prohibited electronics.
Sources said, in-depth investigation is also a problem as taking the concerned prisoner on remand outside the jail is not free from a security point of view and the matter ends with the recovery and registration of cases.
During the first search operation by Sukhjinder Singh Assistant Superintendent along with his staff at barrack number 2, block number 1, two mobiles with SIM card was recovered from under trial prisoners Salim and Abhishek while another two mobiles and two chargers, were found as unclaimed, kept hidden in the iron chain.
In another search operation conducted by Sarbjit Singh, Assistant Superintendent with his staff at barrack number 2 of ‘langar’ one mobile with SIM card was recovered from prisoner Jaspreet Singh.
Randhir Kumar, SP(I) informed that we have registered a case against the three jail inmates along with unidentified persons under Section 52-A of Prisons Act and further investigations are on with Gurmail Singh appointed as IO in this case, with special focus on entry of mobiles inside the jail premises.
