PGI in Ferozepur still a distant dream; residents register protest over Candle March

Ferozepur, February 27, 2023: The residents of Ferozepur has come up on roads to register their protest by organizing a Candle March over inordinate delay in construction of PGI Satellite Centre in Ferozepur, which as sanctioned ten years ago during the fag-end of the UPA-II regime in 2013.

The land for the PGI has already been provided by the Punjab government after a lot of controversies over the location. Earlier also, the residents had launched an e-mail and signature campaign, to remind the Centre government, to expedite the work on this project. The project was, however, scheduled to be inaugurated on January 5 last year by Prime Minister Narendera Modi but due to blockade on the highway, the PM had to return.   Later on, Amit Shah had also announced to lay the foundation before April 13 last but so far there is no progress and there is a great resentment among the residents.

Pardeep Dhawan, President, Senior Citizens Forum said, the PGI is the need of the hour as in emergency cases, the patients have to be rushed to far off stations for treatment. It looks to be a political game now even after its announcement ten years back in UPA-II regime in 2013, to encash the project in view of the elections due for next year.
