People scares of indisposed PPE Kit found in residential area
Ferozepur, May 8, 2020: The recovery of used PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Kit from the residential area of Ferozepur on Thursday night, when 42 active coronavirus cases are under close observation of health department in Isolation Wards, has put a question mark about the solid waste management department which handles the medical waste but it looks like that protocol has been bypassed.
While it is important to wear the PPE kit, who is in close contact with the corona patients, it is equally important to dispose of contaminated PPE kit properly.
As per the World Health Organization, all single-use PPE must be collected in an appropriate waste bag. The bag must be tightly shut and disinfected and taken to a designated site far from inhabited land for incineration under controlled conditions.
Added here, the PPE kit is used by the health officials before taking samples of coronavirus, visiting the Isolation Wards, containment zones as a medical protocol, and preventive measures, to avoid transmission of the virus.
The civil surgeon failed to respond to repeated calls and even on leaving a message on his mobile, about the official version especially when the coronavirus can be transmitted easily from such glaring mistakes.
Sources said an advisory is being issued by the health department that in case any PPE kit used by the private person and found lying in the open instead of disposing of it, will face the music of law. However, the indisposed kit has been reported to be disposed of by the health officials.
