PCMSA starts statewide protest against appointment of doctors on basic pay

Demands full package of salary instead of  meager salary of  Rs.15,600

PCMSA MOGA

Ferozepur,  September 20, 2015 : The government doctors under the banner of Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) during a state level convention at Kingdom resorts in Moga on Sunday started statewide agitation against the recruitment of government doctors (Medical Officers) on basic pay scale of Rs 15,600.

The state government has recently completed a process of recruitment of 422 Medical Officers (doctors) under Punjab Civil Medical Services across the state on basic pay of just Rs 15,600, although half of these posts may remain vacant as most of the doctors are not willing to join the duty on this meager salary.

While addressing doctors from across the state, at a state level convention at Kingdom Hotel at Moga, PCMSA leaders including Dr Gagandeep Singh Shergill, Dr Ranjit Singh Buttar, Dr Ajay Bagga, Dr Dataar Singh Multani, Dr Nishan Singh, Dr Gagandeep Singh Moga and Dr Indervir Singh Gill said that the PCMSA would hand over the memorandum to Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and if the state government would not withdraw the decision, they would start pen down strike.

“We have asked the state government to recruit the doctors on full package of the salary instead of just basic pay of Rs 15,600 but state government has not listened to our demand so far. We are going to start the agitation and the state government will be responsible for the results and sufferings of the patients across the state”, they added.

“We will demand hike in the salaries of the specialist doctors while state government should restore the Non-practice Allowance for the doctors who join Post Graduation under government quota. We will also demand to decrease the term of mandatory service of 4 to 6 years in rural areas to 3 years”, said Dr Ranjit Singh Buttar, pattern of the union.

“The doctors especially females have no security during government duties in the hospitals and the government should form a special policy for the same. In the case of unfortunate tragedy with the patients during treatment, life of the doctors is at risk of attack”, they added.
