One mobile number active on two different service networks

Ferozepur July 23, 2018: Can one mobile phone number be active on two different service networks? Yes, it has happened with Harish Monga but the issue is an eye-opener and challenge for the technical staff of both the service operators in this digital era.

Divulging with the details, by showing the screenshot of two different networks on one mobile, Harish Monga said, I got ported his mobile number 9815087107 from Jio – though originally it was Airtel and later on ported to Jio – Airtel because of having poor signal at certain places in Cantonment area. When last Friday I was issued the new Airtel SIM, the same was activated but is incoming was barred till today, even now.

In the absence of incoming calls, Harish Monga was feeling handicapped as there was a communication gap for three consecutive days.

He said, despite taking up with the issue with both the service networks personally and through e-mails also, the issue could not be resolved on the plea that this is perhaps the first of its kind.

Harish Monga got a message from Airtel store that the issue has been resolved and the SIM be re-inserted.  By doing this technique, it did not work. When he again approached the Airtel store, he was assured that the issue will be resolved within four hours.  But when the Airtel store in charge informed that Jio network is still working and it is likely to take more time for resolving the incoming issue.

Luckily when the Jio SIM was inserted into the phone in the second slot, it showed the network and started receiving the incoming calls instantly.

Harish Monga said, in this high tech era, such issues are a big challenge to the technical staff of mobile service operators so that the same are not repeated and to avoid inconvenience to the customers.

Senior Technical staff member when contacted said, this is the first time that I am hearing an issue of this kind.  It appears to be n error in the programming of porting the number from one service operator to another.  I hope that the technical staff will take it as a test case to avoid its repetition.
