Ferozepur, January 15, 2023: In another incident, the Ferozepur police have arrested one person with 11 Chinese Dor rolls – a deadly string attached to kite flying, ahead of the celebration of the festival which falls this year on the Republic Day.  Earlier, also in three instances, the police have booked with recovery heavy consignments of Chinese string boxes.

Even after a number of fatal mishaps, the banned ‘Chinese manjha’ (string), which is also known as synthetic or nylon string, is being used openly for flying kites in various parts of the city, posing a serious threat to pedestrians and commuters, birds and animals these days.

It is pertinent to mention that the Chinese majha, which was banned by the National Green Tribunal in 2017, continues to be sold and used, causing serious injuries and even fatalities. Punjab DGP has also issued directives to issued directives to book offenders under the non-bail able sections of the relevant Acts which can attract a punishment of more than three years.

As per the information, the police patrolling team got the input that Simranjit Singh alias Vicky of Golden Enclave and doing business near Preet Nagar is doing the business of selling the Chinese thread, dodging the innocent person saying that this is an ordinary thread, when he knows that this is a banned item and its use for kite flying is not safe and a danger to the flying birds and human beings especially while driving. Working on the inputs, a raid was conducted and 11 Chinese Dor rolls were recovered.

Pointing out to the recovery of banned Chinese dor, Pardeep Dhawan, President, Senior Citizens Forum said, instead of enjoying the change of season festival of Basant, the kite-flying lovers are taking the lives of innocent birds and seriously injuring the people on the road side, with the use of Chinese string. It is not understood as to where the Chinese thread is coming, despite the ban.   Moreover, it is being openly sold in the market. It is strongly urged to the administration to take strict measures to check the sale of this unsafe dor, which is taking the charm out of this traditional game.

However, the accused has been booked under 39, 51 IPC of The Wild Life Protection Act 1972 and 15, The Environment Protection Act 1986 and further investigations are on, said SHO Mohit Dhawan adding giving a warning to Chinese thread sellers and users to face the music, as earlier cases were registered against people selling the same. Now, its usage will also be a crime. Whoever is found flying a kite with the deadly string will face a criminal
