On poll eve, 1,30,000 ltrs ‘lahan’, 600 illegal liquor bottles in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, February 1, 2022: On a tip-off to the police, that Kakka of Ali Ke and Bulla of Nihanga Wala are brewing the illegal liquor and huge quantity of liquor is lying near Chakar Wala Beda in village Ali Ke. During the raid by the police team, 1,37,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ were recovered along with 35 tarpaulins. In another raid, 600 bottles of illegal liquor from village Said Ke, from Makhan Singh and Shambu were recovered.
The recovered illegal liquor was reported to have been destroyed on the spot to avoid its misuses.
It is pertinent to mention that a majority of the population settled along the banks of Sutlej River belongs to minority communities and most male members of the village are daily-wagers. These people have not been getting any lucrative employment offers and hence taking up illicit liquor trade to make both ends meet.
SSP Narendra Bharagaw said, as per the previous history, there is no case against Kakka and Shambu, while Bulla is booked in one and Makhan Singh in 5 cases under Excise Act. All the accused fled away from the scene and will be shortly nabbed and produced in the court.
