Old Students Association of Home for Blinds organizes Bazm-Tumhare-Naam dedicated to Ustad Mehar Chand
Ferozepur, January 10, 2021: Today, Old Students Association Blind Home organized Bazm-
Tumhare-Naam dedicated to Ustad Mehar Chand in the campus of District Council for the Welfare of Handicapped.
Mehar Chand who was visually impaired by birth, died at the age of 35 in 1985 had produced number of musician – both visually-impaired and sighted, who are no settled in government jobs as music teacher, Professor or Head of the Music Departments, while staying in Home for the Blinds.
Among his old students, Raj Kumar, Iqbal Singh and Murli Dhar HoD Music Department at Government College Chandigarh, Dr.Rakesh Mohan, Anil Gupta and Nirmaljit Singh, presented their performance with their melodious voice starting with Kyon Mujhe Mout Ke Pegam Diye Jate Ho, Yeh Sazza Kam To Nahi Hai Ke Jiye Ja Rahen Hai followed by, Chup Hai Diwar Ki Tarh Saye, Yeh Mere Raste Men Kyon Aaye – Apne Matlab ke Liye Apne Ban Jate Hain Log, Matlab Jab Nikal Jaye to Begane Ban Jate Hain Log and Banai Hai Jis Ne Itni Badi Duniya, Us Ko Dil Ka Banana Na Aaya. Really, it was a treat to music enthusiasts to hear some of the best soulful melodies, making the audience sway with their mesmerizing crystal clear voices which enough to transport the audience to trance. The music lovers present hummed along with the singers with their performances which received a thunderous applause.
Remembering Utad Mehar Chand by quoting from his famous gazal composition – Tamam Baat Sun Ke Bhi Who Seeke Lab Chla Gya, Kisi Ka Kuch Nahi Gya, Mera to Sab Chla Gya – sighted student Nirmaljit Singh said, remembering by organizing such events in memory of Ustad, is keep him alive. Highlighting his qualities as a teacher, he narrated an incident, he said, Ustad Mehar Chand was so confident about his instrumental skills that his final Sangeet Bhaskar result was revised on returning the degree on re-evaluation of his skill.
Present among around 50 visually-impaired persons were also Prof Rudra, Kamal Dravid, Ashok Behal, Secretary Red Cross, Deepak and Komal Sharma . Anchor Prof Rakesh Mohan engrossed with her musical trivia.
