Normal rain good but strong winds, hailstorm deadly for crops

Ferozepur, March 10, 2017: Uncertain weather conditions followed by strong winds, hailstorm in Ferozepur and surrounding areas today raised the fears of farmers for their standing crop.

In Makhu, Zira and Ferozepur there was rain followed by hailstorm putting a loss to the farmer’s community for their half-matured standing crop and animal fodder.

Harjit Singh a farmer of the area said, While the normal rain in these days is beneficial for the crop when irrigation is still required but only fear is of heavy rain followed by hail storm as well as strong winds.

At this point the rain is quite soft and milky which needs 20 to 25 degree temperature for at least two more weeks to get mature properly and the rain may bring the temperature down but there should be no wind, said another farmer Jagdish Gakhar.
