No train services resumed in Punjab, waiting for orders from headquarters: Addl.DRM
Ferozepur, October 29, 2020: The train operations in Punjab, suspended due to the ongoing agitation by farmers, over the three Farm Bills, is still under consideration of the Railway headquarters and waiting for orders for running of trains.
Giving information about the operation of trains in Punjab- Ferozepur Division, Addl. Divisional Rail Manager, Ferozepur Division, Sukhwinder Singh said, no trains services have resumed amid speculation that trains services had been restored in the agitation hit state. However, railways are ready with its infrastructure for operation of train on tracks as soon as the instructions are received from the headquarter. Presently, it is status quo.
Added here, the goods trains were started for one day, on clearing the tracks by the protesting farmers but were withdrawn inward operation of goods trains in Punjab taking the plea that under restricted environment, the railway cannot work on the dictated terms of the farmers. In fact, the goods trains were also blocked at Moga and Talwandi Sabo by the farmers. Both passengers as well as goods trains will run simultaneously. The farmers are still on certain tracks and shifted their agitation to the railway stations at most of the places in the division.
Still there is a deadlock over the dialogue between the Centre government and the farmer outfits to arrive at any decision. With the ongoing agitation, the public is feeling lot of inconvenience for non operation of passengers trains besides putting a heavy loss to the Railways. On the other hand, the High Court has also take a serious note and asked for the action take report for clearance of railway tracks. Now, it is a big challenge before the government to get the railway tracks cleared from the protesters against three farm bills.
