Exemption from toll tax for journalists, Press Club submits memorandum to DC Ferozepur
Ferozepur, August 26, 2022: The Press Club Ferozepur members has written to Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur to take measures to give free access to journalists to all toll plazas in the district to facilitate their unhindered movement with specific mention of Ferozshah toll plaza which is not exempting the yellow and pink card holder journalists even.
In a memorandum submitted to DC, the Press Club office-bearers have requested her to use his good offices and convince the National Highways Authority of India – that maintains the toll plazas – to consider identity cards of media house – Yellow and Pink (Accreditation) to exempt journalists from paying the toll for their vehicles. These identity cards have already been issued by the media houses which may be considered valid and toll exemption must be given to journalists who are in possession of the card.
Malkiat Singh, President, Sunny Chopra, Chairman of the Press Club said, journalists travel across the city and district on professional assignments and there are many journalists hailing from rural areas working in Ferpzepur. Moreover, theyare not getting paid much but serving the society facing financial problems in doing their duty. Hence we demand that journalists should be exempted from toll tax. At least journalists from recognized media houses should be exempted,
Meanwhile some days ago, there were many social media posts and promise by the government that claimed that journalists will be exempted from paying toll tax at every toll plaza in the country for which ID proof will be needed. But so far there is no such announcement and Ferozshah toll plaza staff is not exempting the yellow and pink card holders even rather misbehave with the journalists, said President and Chairman.
Amrit Singh DC promised to take up the matter with NHAI authorities shortly.
