No bar behind bars, Mobile recovered from turban of Jail Warder
Ferozepur November 8, 2018: With the recovery of mobile – Samsung brand dual SIM with battery but without SIM -from the turban of Jail Warder during search operation at ‘deori’, it has once again exposed the security tinkle at the Central Jail Ferozepur and there is a nexus to smuggle in the goods is flourishing in Punjab jails.
The Jail Warder has been identified as Manjit Singh No.1056 and arrested. Warder has been booked under Section 52-A Prisons Act 1894 on the complaint of Superintendent Central Jail.
Sukhjinder Singh has been appointed as IO in this case and investigations are on to ascertain the motive behind hiding the mobile in the turban and to whom it was to be delivered inside the jail.
In the past also there had been recoveries of mobiles, drugs and it looks that the jail inmates can have all you want and connivance of jail staff in smuggling in the goods cannot be ruled out.
Added here, with the announcement of a crackdown by Sukjinder Singh Randhawa on his becoming the Minister, on illegal activities going in in jails across Punjab he received a mobile phone call from an inmate of the Kapurthala Central Jail to congratulate him, an hour after he was sworn in as Minister for Jails in April. When he asked the prisoner, a native of Gurdaspur district to which he belongs, about how he managed to get the mobile phone into the jail and his reply was, it is the easiest, simplest thing to manage inside jails.
