National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship is beneficial for 8th class students : Vijay Garg
Ferozepur, September 3, 2016 : The Centrally Sponsored Scheme “National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS)” launched in May, 2008 with objective of the scheme to award scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out at class VIII and encourage them to continue the study at secondary stage.
Giving this information, Vijay Garg, Lecturer – dedicated for creating awareness among the students for their bright future -from Malout speaking to this correspondent said, Under this scheme, one lac scholarships are given under the said scheme to the students in the country, who parents income from all sources is Rs.1.5 lac or less and 2210 seats quota have been allotted to Punjab.
He further said that the students who have secured minimum 70 per cent marks and in the case of SC category students 45 per cent marks are eligible for this benefit provided they are studying in government, government aided or local bodies schools.
Regarding the syllabus and number, Garg said, the total marks are 180 with subjects in 7th and 8th as Science, Social Studies, Math, Punjabi, Hindi, English beside mental ability.
The examination will be in two parts – first, relating to mentalability having 50 questions verbal and non-verbal having 4 answers and second, relates to qualification of subjects which include 35 questions each from Science and Social Studies, 20 questions of Math, 14 of English, 13 each from Punjabi and Hindi, he added
As regards the examination centres, he said, NMMS exam will be held on November 6, 2016 at district headquarters with 3 hours time and the last date for submission of form will be September 9, 2016. The students getting merit positions will get Rs.6000 per year scholarship from the Centre Government from 9th to 12th class.
