Union Minister distributes 98 sewing machines, 201 insurance policies to women
Fazilka, September 3,2015 : The Union Minister for Food Processing Industry, Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal today said that the Nanhi Chhan project will spread its wings percolating down to each and every village of the state. Nanhi Chhan, which has already succeeded in improving sex ration in society and is churning out skilled and independent women, will now have its presence felt across the state. The project currently has 90 centers and has taught 5000 women so far.
Mrs Badal visited the Bheemshah village in Jandwala area as well as Arniwala where she distributed 98 sewing machines and 201 life insurance policies to women from her own pocket.
After the onset of Nanhi Chhan campaign, the number of female feticides has lessened, sex ratio of children in age group of 0 to 6 years has improved in state and we have been able to have greener Punjab, she said laying emphasis upon the teachings of Gurus against gender selective abortions so that women in society are given their rightful and equal status.
Quoting Gurbani she said that the air has been compared to guru, water to father and the earth has been compared to mother. She asked people to stand united against felling of trees and pollution and reiterated that under Nanhi Chhan campaign, these things are being done.
Mrs Badal added that today women are walking shoulder-to-shoulder with men and have occupied important offices that like of Prime Minister proving their mettle. She said that under the Nanhi Chhan campaign there are sewing centers wherein the poor women and girls are imparted training in sewing and stitching and are provided free sewing machines as well.
She appealed the people to plant at least one sapling every year and care for it. She also sent out an appeal asking people neither to demand and nor to accept dowry during weddings so that the evil is rooted out.
The Union Minister Mr. Badal said that fighting against the social evils in society, all of us will have to make collective efforts and turn it into a community wave. She expressed her concern over the land of Gurus – Punjab turning into a place that is fighting against female feticide, dowry, crime against women and environmental pollution. She added that even our Gurus and Gurbani give equal status to women, but still our society has evils like female feticide.
she added that the Mudra Bank, set up with a corpus fund, aims to fuel the entrepreneurship spirit of the poor traders who cannot afford money to expand their business. Besides this under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana youth are being trained and imparted skill development lessons. “Youth getting skill development training can opt for starting their own ventures by getting easy loans from Mudra Bank. These are the earnest initiatives of center government to impart job-oriented skills and help the youngsters earn their livelihood respectfully,” she said.
