Mortal remains of 5 farmers killed at Lakhimpur Kheri immersed in Sutlej River at Hussainwala
Ferozepur, October 22, 2021: On Friday, ‘Asthi Kalsh Yatra’ led by Bhag Singh Markhai, District President, Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan, General Secretary Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) and Shingara Singh Mann and Janak Singh Bhatan, along with hundreds of district and block-level presidents from the state visited Hussainiwala, from Patiala reached Hussainiwala, to immerse the mortal remains of five farmers who had lost their lives after violence erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur-Kheri during the ongoing protest against the three farm laws.
Violence broke out after two SUVs allegedly ran over a group of anti-farm law protesters who were demonstrating against the visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya at Tikonia-Banbirpur road. The farmers died after being allegedly run over by the car of Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) a united forum of farmer unions protesting the three farm laws and the BKU are demanding actions against the Mishras.
The Asthi Kalash Yatra left Patiala on Friday morning and reached Hussainiwala via Sangrur, Barnala and Moga. First, the farmers paid floral tributes at the National Martyrs Memorial of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his associations and later on immersed the ashes of five farmers in the Sutlej River.
Under the leadership of General Secretary of Bhartiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan, Sukhdev Singh Kukri Kalan, state officials Shingara Singh Mann and Janak Singh Bhatan, this Asthi Kalash Yatra left from Patiala and reached Hussainiwala martyrdom memorial in Ferozepur.
Speaking on the occasion, the farmer leaders said, during the peaceful agitation of the farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), when the five farmers- – Luvpreet Singh, Rama Kashyap, Nachhatar Singh, Gurvinder Singh and Daljit Singh- were killed after being hit by the jeep by the son of a senior BJP leader. After the said incident, there is a lot of anger among the farmers. Till now, the farmers have not got justice in this regard. They said, the farmer is the son of being senior BJP leader and justice is being denied. Meanwhile, the ashes of five farmers are being immersed in the rivers across the country by organizing an Asthi Kalash Yatra from October 18 to 24.
Apart from this, to knock the doors of the government, this is also a peaceful protest to realize the unity of the farmers.
