Mobile with SIM card recovered from jail inmate in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, July 9, 2017: The recovery of mobile phones from inmates and barracks of the jails in the state has become a routine and it puts a big question mark and the connivance of the jails officials, on the security arrangements cannot be ruled out.
In past, 18 mobiles were recovered from Amritsar jail and in Ferozepur also during number of checking operations, mobiles, drugs have been recovered.
During the recent checking, a mobile phone along with SIM was recovered during search operation by Asstt. Supdt. Central Jail from Sandeep Kumar alias Nanni son of Tarsem Lal resident of Mamdot.
As per the study, the cell-phones inside the jail, help criminals in threatening witnesses, besides planning escape from the jail. Sometimes, the prisoners also extort money while staying in the jail. In many cases, relatives of prisoners provide mobile phones to the inmates during their hearing in the court. Similarly, narcotic substances and other communication devices reach jails hidden in the supplies to the jail. The connivance of jail staff for reaching of mobiles to the inmates, cannot be ruled out.
A case under Section 52-A of Prisons Act 1894 has been registered and further investigation is on, said Raman Kumar, local city police station chief (SHO).
