MGNREGA employees seek regularization, submit memorandum to MLA Bhullar
Ferozepur, February 28, 2025: The long-pending demand for the regularization of MGNREGA employees in Punjab has resurfaced as employees submitted a memorandum to MLA Ranbir Bhullar, addressed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Varinderpal Singh, President, and Amritpal Singh, General Secretary of the MGNREGA Employees Union, said that over 2063 employees have been working on contractual posts under the NREGA Act-2005 in Punjab for the last 15 years. They stressed that their recruitment was conducted in a transparent manner as per the set norms for regular employees.
MGNREGA employees are playing a key role in rural development projects such as employment generation, pond renovation, e-governance, Dalit welfare, environmental cleanliness, and infrastructure development for villages, schools, and Anganwadi centers.
The union leaders pointed out that the Punjab Government had already prepared their regularization case, but despite fulfilling all eligibility conditions, the employees are still waiting for final orders. They expressed disappointment that previous Akali-BJP and Congress governments had also ignored their demands.
They appealed to the government to issue regularization orders at the earliest, warning that further delay could lead to widespread resentment among MGNREGA workers across Punjab.
