Men in Khakhi at forefront in relief work in border village of Ferozepur
Ferozepur, July 13, 2023: A war-footing operation was carried out, by the district administration and officials in Khakhi, to repair the road and plug the breach at bridge at Hazara Singh Wala, connecting with Gatti Rajo Ke, washed away in flood water which emerged from Sutlej River and around 16 other villages including the Kaluwala village which is already covered with water from three sides and one side is touching the Pakistan border. Around 60-70 villages have been affected by the rain and river water in Ferozepur.
Many volunteers and the authorities have swung into action and are helping in rescue and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people. Among these are revenue and police officials who are going the extra mile and evacuating people from the flood affected places to shift them to safer places and helping in repairing the road and plug the breach.
Amid so much confusion caused because of the floods, the stories or rescue and relief operations, especially by men in uniform, have provided much-needed emotional support.
Unfortunate factor is that the Sutlej River water released towards Pakistan comes back to the Indian side, flooding the villagers along the International Border.
The local leading NGO Ferozepur Foundation has taken responsibility to provide food to the flood affected people.
Later, to boost the morale of the force, SP Randhir Kumar said, with Khaki as armour, the national emblem as our crown, we rededicate ourselves to serve the citizens in distress. With hope for a brighter tomorrow, pray for more strength and zeal for every boot on the ground. He said, it is a good effort by Ferozepur police also to fill the damaged bridge by putting the bags filled with sand and soil.
Amid the crisis, which has left the border villages completely shattered and ravaged, the resolve to survive and rebuild has got stronger thanks to the swift action taken by authorities, admits SP Khera, Patron, Sr. Citizens Forum.
