MC Polls: Congress-SAD win, ultimately sufferer public

Ferozepur, December 9, 2017: The Mallanwala police station in Ferozepur district added the names of Congress workers in Roznamcha No.3 on December 7 in a cross-case after the dharna of Akali leaders and workers led by Sukhbir Badal and Bikramjit Majitia at Ferozepur and announcement to proceed to Hari Ke for blockade of traffic.

The police had already booked 13 Akali leaders and workers along with hundreds of unidentified persons were booked on December 6 in FIR No.114/6.12.2017 in a firing incident to disrupt the nomination of papers for MC polls at Mallanwala under Sections 307, 506, 120B, 148, 149 of IPC and 25 and 27 Arms Act 1959.

Later on, with the intervention of DIG and DC, the dharna was lifted on assurance to withdraw Section 307.

But taking advantage of this deal, the police booked Sukhbir Badal, Majithia and six others under Sections 431-damage to roads and bridges, 341 – wrongful restraint and 283- causing danger or obstruction in public way of the IPC and Section 8-B of the National Highways Act.

The police have wisely tackled the situation wisely by adding the name of the Congress workers in the Roznamcha in a cross-case on the similar charges and Sections on the day of agitation at Ferozepur when Sukhbir Badal had appealed to the protesters at the end of his address, to move to Hari Ke for the blockade.  Another wise step taken was arresting the Congress workers – Ajay Kumar, Sat Pal, Angrez Singh, Munish Kumar and Hira Kakkar of Mallanwala, indicated in the Roznamcha along with 15-20 unidentified supporters, perhaps taking them into confidence, on seeing the convenience to the public with the blocking of all major national highways.

An old timer of Ferozepur and social worker Diwan Chand said, there are other ways also to show resentment but causing inconvenience to the public by the political leaders and workers is not appreciated.

In this whole episode over the MC polls, both Congress and Akalis have won but the ultimate suffer was public.
