MARKFED field employees on statewide indefinite strike to register their protest over demands
Ferozepur, August 1, 2017: The field employees of MARKFED – The Punjab State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited Chandigarh – on a call from state union proceeded on strike from today for an indefinite period for non-acceptance of their genuine demands.
Today, the field employees staged protest in front of the district office and condemned the indifferent attitude of the management towards the employees.
The strike by the employees of Markfed which deals with the essential commodities of wheat procurement and movement to other states, distribution of fertilizers to the farmers through the cooperative net work and marketing of its own product under the brand name of Sohna – is likely to hit the working of the institution besides causing a heavy loss.
The demands of the field employees include – identical scales to employees, posting field staff only in the field, assignment of duty to the staff as per the job, not to pass on the responsibility on the field staff in the event of damage of stocks due to heavy rains, making provisions for extra expenditure for managing the damaged stocks, stopping of action in event of non fulfilling the targets for sale of Markfed pesticides and cattle-feed.
Amarjit Singh President, Field Employees Union, Ferozepur said, a notice to this effect was given to the Managing Director on July 20 for proceeding on strike for an indefinite period.
He said, the field employees will not attend to any work – loading of wheat specials, loading and unloading of gunny bales, marketing or any other work in the branches.
We will continue on strike till further instructions from the state union, he added.
The union leader also made it clear that any loss during the strike period will be entire responsibility of the management of Markfed.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the District Manager, Markfed, Ferozepur.
Present among others were Vishal Arora, Sandeep Kumar, Surinder Kumar, Jasvir Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Narinder Singh, Som Nath, Kulwant Rai, Daljit Singh, Darshan Lal, Sat Pal and others.
