Punjab Govt. to spend Rs.2000 crore for construction of new historical monuments : Thandal
Ferozepur, October 12, 2015: With a view to develop tourism in Punjab, to attach the people with their historical and proud heritage and create awareness about its history, the Punjab Government is spending Rs.2,000 crore for construction of new monuments of historical importance. It was disclosed by Sohan Singh Thandal, Jail, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister and Printing and Stationary Minister, Punjab after paying floral tributes to the martyrs at Hussainiwala today.He was accompanied by Joginder Singh Jindu, MLA Ferozepur Rural, Er.DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner and Avtar Singh Minna, Chairman, Punjab State Cooperative Bank.
He made a special reference of the construction of historical and religions memorials by the Punjab Government, which include Chhapparchiri, Chhota Ghallughara, Vadha Ghallughara, Kup Rahira, Virasat-e-Khalsa Sri Anandpur Sahib, Sri Kartarpur Sahim,RamTirath etc.
Thandal said, the Punjab Government is spending Rs.2,000 crore on the construction of new historical monument with a view to develop tourism in Punjab, to attach the people with their historical and proud heritage and create awareness about its history. Another Rs.100 crore is also ear marked for the development of tourism and on conservation of historical and old heritage buildings.
Shortly, the light and sound programme will be started at Hussainiwala martyrs’ memorial to attract the tourists on this historic and sacred place besides arrangeting grants for the development of places like Ferozeshah, Mudki and Sabhrawan, Thandal added.
He said, with the operation of International standard airport at Chandigarh, the tourism in Punjab will get a boost.
It is a matter of proud for Punjab that the maximum tourists and devotees visited Shri Harmandar Sahib at Amritsar, Thandal said proudly.
Talking about the working of the jails, Thandal said, drug smuggling in jails will not be allowed and action will be initiated against the accused.
On the current agitation of the farmers, the Minister said, the Punjab Government fully stand with the farmers of Punjab and more than Rs.600 crore as compensation has been released to the affected farmers. Leveling charges on the Congress and other opposition parties, he said, they all are playing the game of politics instead of interests of the farmers.
