Ferozepur, December 29, 2015:  Today, Punjab Rattan Jathedar Inderjit Singh Zira former Minister, State Chairman, Kissan Khet Mazdoor Cell Punjab Congress submitted a 10-point memorandum to Punjab Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki.

Speaking to the media persons, Inderjit Singh Zira said, the farmers and labourers in the field in Punjab are facing number of problems since long and farmers friendly organizations are struggling to awaken the government but the Centre Government has virtually avoiding to look into the same.  While the farmers are being compelled to commit suicides because of financial constraint, 25 farmers of single village Pakaan in the home district Muktsar of Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, have ended their lives.

The demands include in the memorandum are – implementation of Dr.Swaminathan’s reports in toto, immediate release of Rs.5500 crore to the farmers on account of paddy/basmati, passing of law in the Cabinet in favour of farmers regarding allotment of lands allotted in 2007, immediate release of balance amount to the farmers of sugar mills, strict action against the mills refusing CJ236 sugarcane variety sowed by 70 per cent farmers on the recommendations of the Punjab Agriculture University, waiving off of 51000 crore loan on the farmers on account of supply of spurious supply of pesticides to the farmers, full compensation to the farmers on account of loss of 14,000 acre cotton crop area with whitefly, without any condition, give compensation of minimum of Rs.10 lakh to the members of the family of farmers committed suicides besides job to one of the family member, uninterrupted power supply to farmers during the day time instead of chilly nights for irrigation purposes and others.

Zira said, the call for hunger strike in front of residence of Chief Minister at Chandigarh was taken back on assurance from the Governor to look into our demands.

However, ultimatum upto January 8 was given to accept the demands otherwise, they will not hesitate to intensify the agitation.
