Ferozepur, February 10, 2023: During the last two days, 8 mobiles, 2 data cables, 2 adopters and gm opium, during the search operation, have been recovered from the Central jail and recovery of banned items is a continuous process despite strict vigil at the entry points. However, the recovery of mobiles used to run illegal affairs from inside the jail, is a drive to cut crime.
During the month of January 46 mobiles were found in search operations while 26 mobiles in February. However, during the last year 440 mobiles were seized during the various search operations carried out in the barracks from the jail inmates or lying unclaimed in the bathrooms, in the open or recovered from the packets thrown over the high walls of the jail.
Recently, a jail inmate, Anokh Singh – facing trial in NDPS cases, on medical leave for three months, had disclosed the inside story of the jail that everything is available in the jail with money including the smart mobile phones.
Throwing of packets inside the jail over the high walls is due to an open area on the back walls of the jail and surrounded by the residential areas. The connivance of jail staff, in smuggling in of banned items, including the most wanted item mobile, also cannot be ruled out with the arrest of warden and his son.
According to the jail officials, the process of installing jammers has been started from the jail headquarter side, for which the survey has been started. Jammer is such a new technology which blocks the frequency between the tower and mobile and it is one of the best options now. Such arrangements are likely to discourage the use of mobiles to run the affairs from inside the jail as so far the purpose of keeping the criminals away from the worldly affairs, as punishment, is lost.
Taking out the prisoners from jail on remand for investigation in such cases is also risky according to the jail officials. Meanwhile, the cases under Prisons Act are registered and further investigations are on.
