Added here, the Rajasthan assembly has recently passed the Right to Health Bill which protects the rights of patients to access equitable healthcare services.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had observed a nationwide black day on March 27 to protest against Rajasthan’s Right to Health (RTH) Bill, which was recently passed in the state assembly amid medical professionals’ demand to roll it back. Doctors across the state, including IMA’s Rajasthan chapter, have been protesting against the Act, that gives rights to every resident to avail free of cost treatment along with ‘emergency treatment’ without prepayment at any health institution in the state.
The RTH Bill was passed in the assembly on March 21, making Rajasthan the first ever state to form a law protecting the rights of patients to access equitable healthcare services.
On the other hand, the Rajasthan Minister has said there is no scope to amend the health bill.
Dr.Kalia said, as practising doctors, we are concerned about the ‘black law’ and the violence unleashed on the doctors of Rajasthan. We condemn the excessive police action on doctors who are serving the nation selflessly and have defended the nation against Covid-19.
IMA President said, the government cannot absolve itself from its responsibility by transferring it to the private sector and the new bill will not be in the best interest of our nation and citizens. Hence, we demand that the Government of Rajasthan should roll back this ‘black law’.
