Herbal Garden set up under NEAC Project at Govt. High School Karma

Ferozepur, February 26, 2017: Government High School, Karhma, 20 KMs from Ferozepur, situated just near the Indo-Pak border, set up Herbal Garden in the school as part of its project under the National Environment Awareness Campaign sponsored by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, to create wakefulness among the students and the people of the area about the importance of herbal products in our life.Besides, the school also organized the lectures from the resource person, slogan and writing competition.

In one of the corner of the school campus, ten marla land has been ear-marked the space in the school campus for setting up of  of Herbal Garden with financial assistance under NEAC Project 2014-15.

The herbal garden is divided in eight parts with the plantation of different herbs like Tulsi, Mint, Neem, Alovera, Coriander, Gooseberry, Bitter Guard, Henna, Carom Seeds, Lemon Grass in the first week of February 2017.

Under the programme, a lecture was arranged from the social workers namely Diwan Chand Sukhija, President, Streamline Welfare Society, Vipan Sharma, Tehsildar(UT) and Harish Monga, Chairman, PDM Memorial Foundation on benefits of herbs, environment, save water and moral values.

A slogan and poster making competition was also arranged in the school among the students of 6th to 10th class and the best performers were honoured with a certificate, medals and trophies. Apart from this, the services of student’s committee members were also recognized by giving them a participation certificate. 

Speaking on the project, Shivani Monga, Headmistress of the school said, the committee members namely– Mrs.Amanjeet Kaur, Punjab Mistress, Mr.Varun Dhawan, Hindi Master and Mr.Ramandeep Sharma, Science Master have made all out efforts in setting up the Herbal Garden first in the area.

Jaswinder Singh, 9th class student of the school promised to follow up the growth of the plants in the herbal garden by maintaining a daily diary and photographs.

Shivani Monga, Headmistress expressing her pleasure over the projects initiated under NEAC said, such projects put wiser the students and take them close to the nature and should become a part of the syllabus.
