Health Deptt to launch new vaccine for children against pneumococcal diseases
Ferozepur, July 30, 2021: The Health Department will shortly launch new Pneumococcal Vaccine to curb the spread of pneumococcal disease and district level training workshop was organized on Thursday. The vaccine will provide effective and long-lasting protection for children against pneumococcal diseases.
Pneumonia and infections of the brain and blood that is responsible for significant mortality in children under five years as well as in the elderly. Pneumococcal diseases are a major public health problem worldwide.
Senior Medical Officer, Dr.Megha Prakash said that pneumonia is a serious respiratory disease and it is one of the major causes of death in children up to the age of 5 years and health department is soon introducing the pneumococcal vaccine in the routine immunization program to curb the spread of pneumococcal disease. Dr.Megha said that three doses of this vaccine would be given to children at 6 weeks, 14 weeks and 9 months of age.
Javed Ahmed, Program Manager, Punjab, informed the participants about vaccine maintenance, stock management, etc. through e-Win portal..
The workshop was attended by District Program Manager Harish Kataria, Mass Media Officer Rajiv Sharma, District BCC Coordinator Rajnik Kaur, Immunization Assistant Jyoti Bala and Soni Kumar of UNDP was also present.
