Health Deptt inspects Pharma shop, seizes unbilled 21,800 Pregabalin capsules in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, September 5, 2023: During the raid conducted by the Health Department today 21,800 capsules of Pregabalin from M/s R S Pharma of Ferozepur, having no purchase and sale record, were seized, by Soniya Gupta, DCO along Drug Inspector Lakhwant Singh.
As per information, the high doses of pregabalin are used to treat neuropathic pain in horses. However, addicts seeking their daily fix also use these pills, colloquially called ghode wale capsules (capsules for horses), as ‘recreational drugs’. However, pregabalin affects the body differently compared to heroin, Pregabalin abuse makes addicts feel high and elated. However, its long-term abuse damages the nervous system and causes multiple health problems, which can also be fatal.
While the Health Department has so far, primarily concentrated on retailers, but, now the inspection primarily focused on the wholesale markets in the city and dealers must have proper purchase and sale record and the medicines like pregabalin must be sold on the doctor’s prescription by the chemists.
Soniya Gupta said, this drug is being used for addiction and has to be sold strictly with prescription from the doctor.
She further said, we have seized 21,800 pregabalin capsules worth Rs.6,00,600, to avoid its misuse, as the firm could not produce proper records of sale or purchase and reported the matter to the higher authorities for further action in the matter. Based on further investigation, action will be taken on their licence, in the coming days.
