Golden Arrow Division celebrates Barki Day to commemorate ‘Battle of Barki’
Ferozepur, September 10, 2017: The Golden Arrow Division today celebrated the 52nd anniversary of the ‘Barki Day. It is worth mentioning here that the ‘Battle of Barki’ was fought from 06 to 10 Sep 1965 by 65 Infantry Brigade which captured the village of Barki on the Ichhogil Canal, around14 Km from Lahore. For their heroic deeds, the Battle Honour of ‘Barki’ & theatre Honour of Punjab 1965 was conferred on 16 PUNJAB, 4 SIKH and 9 MADRAS of 65 Infantry Brigade.
Major General Rajesh Kundra, SM, General Officer Commanding Golden Arrow Division & other dignitaries laid wreath at the Barki War Memorial on this auspicious occasion. The General Officer Commanding, exhorted all ranks of the Golden Arrow Division to re-dedicate themselves in the service of the nation & emulate our war veterans & martyrs whose sacrifices have brought us this glory.
A large number of officers, JCOs & jawans of Ferozepur Garrison participated in the event to pay homage to the martyrs who fought the battle of Barki & 1965 war.
