Golden Arrow Division celebrates 69th Infantry Day at Barki War Memorial

INFANTRY DAY CELEBRATIONS AT FZR

Ferozepur, October 27, 2015:  Today, Golden Arrow Division celebrated 69th Infantry Day at Barki War Memorial near historical Saragarhi Gurdawara in a simple and impressive ceremony.

In line with the traditions of Indian Army, the day commenced with Maj Gen Vijay Pingale, General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow Division, officers and troops paying homage to the martyrs at Barki War Memorial.

It may be added that in October 1947, India witnessed the first external aggression by tribal and marauders supported by Pakistan Army. On 27 October 1947, First Battalion of The Sikh Regiment was airlifted to Srinagar and fought the courageous battle to save Kashmir valley from the intruders. In subsequent battles that the nation witnessed, the Infantry Soldier played a major role defending the sovereignty of the nation. The Infantry or ‘Queen of Battle’ as it is popularly known, has in its legacy, valiant acts of selflessness & courage by the heroes who have made supreme sacrifice to defend our motherland. To honour the valour of these heroes, 27 October is celebrated every year as the ‘Infantry Day’.

The celebration was followed by Barakhana for troops in the afternoon. In the evening a social evening was organized at Golden Arrow Officer Institute (GAOI) to honour the veterans, which was attended by all officers and families of Ferozepur Station.
