Ghubaya files nomination for Ferozepur, promises priority to get opened Hussainiwala border for trade purposes

Ferozepur, May 13, 2024:  On Monday, Sher Singh Ghubaha filed nominations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, from Ferozepur, scheduled for June 1 in Punjab.

Sher Singh Ghubaya who is a Congress candidate, was MP in 2009 and 2014. He has political experience and has good rapport with his community – Rai Sikh and Kamboj – in the border villages. His son Davinder Dhubaya had also won the Assembly seat from Fazilka.  In 2019, Ghubaya joined the Congress, while his parent party SAD had indicated of expelling him.

In 2009, Sher Singh Ghubaya won with 47.11 per cent votes (4,50,900) defeating Jagmeet Singh Brar of Congress who got 4,29,829 (44.91 per cent votes) and again in 2014 got 4,87,932 (44.13 per cotes) defeating Sunil Kumar Jakhar who got 4,56,512 (1.29% votes) as SAD candidate but lost in 2019, as Congress candidate, by getting 4,34,577 votes (37.08 per cent)  from Sukhbir Singh Badal who got 6,33,427 (54.05 per cent votes) by 1,98,550 votes difference.

The other candidates from Ferozepur are Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar, MLA from Muktsar, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi four time MLA and former Sports Minister during Congress gonverment and now joined BJP, Nardev Singh Bobby Mann (SAD)  who is the younger son of Zora Singh Mann from village Chak Suhlele Wala, as the first candidate after break down of alliance with BJP.

Ferozepur seat has been considered as an Akali stronghold as out of 18 elections, 11 times SAD candidate had won and continuously for the last six terms.  Ferozepur has also influenced two Deras during the last two decades. Now, it is to be seen whether SAD maintain its magic status or not during the current elections. The outcome is in the womb of the future but with the announcement of all the four candidates’ major political parties, the fight looks to be becoming interesting. All three candidates of Congress, BJP and SAD have vote banks in the border belt villages reducing the margin to win.

After filing the nominations today, Ghubaya addressed the media persons at Press Club, accompanied by Parminder Singh Pinky, former MLA. I still hold good the support of Rai Sikh community in the border belt and sure to win. My priority will be the opening of Hussainiwala and Sulemmanki borders for trade purposes like Wagah border and generate employment for the youths.   We hope to form a government with support of INDIA alliance at the centre also this time.
