Four gamblers arrested in Ferozepur, granted bail
Ferozepur, March 6, 2024: The Ferozepur police have booked four persons in three cases of gambling under the Gambling Act with recovery of cash. A tip-off was received in all the cases that people were gambling and a team raided the designated places and nabbed them.
TOOTHLESS LAW – Normally, people enter into a gambling frenzy near the festivals but there are certain habitual and professional gamblers, who allure the youths to play to mint money. Moreover, the Gambling Act is a toothless law and seems to be weak as the accused immediately gets bail after the arrest. The senior police official said gambling is a very organized nexus and in the majority of the cases there is no complainant. High-profile people, big socialites and businessmen are also involved in these.
As per the details, Rahul Wadhwa and Ripan Kumar were booked at Talwandi Bhai with a recovery of Rs.7570 when a tip-off was received by the police. Mangat Ram alias Mangu was booked at Lakho Ke Behram police station with recovery of Rs.920 while Gurvidner Singh was booked at Guruharsahai with recovery of Rs.750.
Police have lodged three separate FIRs under Sections 13A-3-67 of the Gambling Act and they were released on bail after a preliminary investigation.
