Ferozepur, October 12, 2024: In a major crackdown on illegal arms and drug trafficking, a joint team from the CIA Staff and Ferozepur Police made a significant bust today, seizing firearms and a substantial quantity of heroin.

The operation led to the arrest of two notorious criminals, identified as Sagar Urdana Teji and Manpreet Singh, both involved in multiple criminal cases.

SSP Saumya Mishra said that the police team intercepted a vehicle, bearing the registration number HR-13-M-6560, during a routine patrol. Upon approaching the vehicle, the men, later identified as Sagar alias Teji of Gol Bagh – a well-known criminal in the region with a history of serious offences, including robbery and attempted murder and Manpreet Singh alias Mani of Sherkhan – An accomplice with links to several drug trafficking cases, also involved in serious criminal activities across the district,  attempted to avoid attention. However, the police proceeded to search the vehicle, uncovering 100 grams of heroin, five country-made pistols –  three .32-bore pistols, two .30-bore pistols, and 26 live cartridges.

The suspects have been booked under various sections, including IPC 302, 307, 323, 452, 427, and 34, as well as the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act for previous offences and the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband and potential connections to larger criminal networks.

Both suspects have extensive criminal records. Sagar aliasTeji has prior cases under IPC sections for robbery, arms possession, and drug-related offences, while Manpreet Singh is implicated in drug trafficking cases registered under the NDPS Act. He was also wanted in a murder case of April 2023 at Mallanwala police station.

The arrested individuals will face multiple charges under the IPC and NDPS Act, as well as the Arms Act. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ferozepur, the arrested men were allegedly involved in a larger network of illegal arms and drug trade across Punjab.  The Ferozepur Police have stepped up efforts to curb criminal activities in the region. Further investigations are underway to uncover links to other members of the criminal syndicate. The police have stated that they are committed to dismantling these networks and maintaining peace in the district.
