Fereozepur police crack interstate drug smuggler, one held with opium, drug money
Ferozepur, February 8, 2021: The Ferozepur police have tightened the noose around the drug smugglers active in the border district following the busting of an interstate drug smuggler with recovery of opium, drug money and vehicle used to ferry from Jharkhand.
Divulging with the details, Bhagirath Singh Meena, SSP Ferozepur said, the police team working swiftly on the tip-off – under the tutelage of Rattan Singh Brar, SP(I) and Barinder Singh Gill, DSP(City) along with Manoj Kumar, SHO City and Sukhchain Singh, SI – nabbed Gurmit Singh alias Meen of Talwandi Bhai, from near district industries centre and Ram Lal Gurudwara, with the recovery of 1.5 kg opium and Rs.75,000 drug money along with white colour Swift Car No.PB-05-A-2579.
During the course of the preliminary investigation, SSP said, it has been revealed by Gurmit Singh that he sells opium by bringing it from Jharkhand at the cheaper rates and earlier also, he has made four-five trips in this regard.
He further said that Baldev Singh father of the accused, who works for battery repairing, is contesting the Municipal Council elections from Ward No.8 Talwandi Bhai as an Independent candidate. In the meantime, 2-days’ police remand has been obtained from the Court and during this period, more clues are expected to come on the surface of the involvement of more smugglers and the special focus will be on his earlier criminal record. Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Sections 18, 61, 85 NDPS Act with the appointment of IO to further investigate the case.
SSP said, apart from this, the City police station has also cracked the motorcycle lifter gang kingpin with the recovery of 13 vehicles from Cheema of Ferozepur and Lakhwinder Singh of Khai Pheme Ki.
He also shared that during the MC elections, the police is keeping a cat eye on unscrupulous and anti-social elements and also arrested 5 Proclaimed Offenders-POs – identified as Bhesha, Bohra, Saurav, Resham Singh and Makalbook alias Kooli wanted in various criminal cases.
SSP said, the police were keeping a watchful eye on the activities in the district and a special campaign would continue, against the drug smugglers.
