FCI THREATENED NATIONAL LEVEL INDEFINITE STRIKE

Ferozepur, May 27, 2016: The employees of Food Corporation of India (FCI) – an institution controlling the Central Pool stocks of wheat and rice – threatened to convert their nationwide agitation of observing ‘work to rule’ started two days ago into national level ‘indefinite strike’ against their management and ministry of food processing industries, for non acceptance of their demands,

As per the decision taken by the FCI Employees Union, during ‘work to rule’, the employees will only do the desk job and would not fulfill their field duty as required. They would not take part in loading and dispatching of food grains through trains. Nearly six special trains in this district have been withheld over night on account of the protest, for which railways has levied demur-rage of nearly Rs.2 lakh per special train.

Giving the background of proceeding on work to rule agitation, Bhartiya Khadya Nigam Karamchari Sangh’s district head and Secretary Diwakar Gaur and Dinesh Kumar Meena respectively said, “The employees have been demanding benefits for category 3 and 4 staff on percentage basis as assigned to FCI category 2 employees. Union Adviser Amarjit Singh Bhogal said that work to rule has been extended up to June 8 and thereafter hunger strike would be observed and even after that if FCI management and the ministry fail to accept the demands then indefinite strike would be observed at national level.
