Farmers’ protest to reach 200 Days on Aug 31; Rajasthan Kisan Adivasi Mazdoor Sammelan announced for Sept 8
Ferozepur, August 24, 2024: As the farmers’ protest nears its 200th day on August 31, significant developments continue to unfold. The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha has announced the “Rajasthan Kisan Adivasi Mazdoor Sammelan,” scheduled for September 8, 2024, in Jaipur. This will be the second such convention, following a similar event in Delhi, as part of the ongoing movement.
There has been deadlock over the last meetings over opening the border without taking tractors to Delhi besides over the demands of MSP with the government. However, among the long pending demands of the farmers, the MSP will be a key issue for the Committee by the Supreme Court, to be discussed.
The Supreme Court of India has intervened in the prolonged blockade at the Shambhu border, which has been closed by farmers since February 13 under the banners of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM). The Court has directed the governments of Punjab and Haryana to explore the possibility of partially reopening the border.
To amplify their protest and draw attention to their demands, the protest, which has been active on the borders of Punjab and Haryana for over six months, continues to maintain momentum as tensions between the farmers and the government persist.
Appealing to the farmers, Sarwan Singh Pandher, a farmer leader from Punjab representing the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee in his video message, asked them to join the Sammelan on September 8 in Jaipur.
