Farmers protest at Shambhu border completes 100 days, to intensify protest during Modi’s visit in Punjab

Ferozepur, May 22, 2024:  Thousands of farmers and labourers, hold a protest at Shambhu border on completion of 100 days today which started on February 13. Earlier, the ‘rail-roko’ protest was lifted, putting a relief to the train passengers, the farmer outfits had announced to continue with the  protest.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab on June 1, Prime Minister Modi will be visiting Patiala on June 2 (Thursday) to address a rally in favour of BJP candidate Preneet Kaur.

With a big ‘No’ to farmers to talk to Modi and ask him questions during his visit to Punjab, the deadlock between the government and the farmers outfits continues and we left with no alternative to intensify our protest during the few days ahead of Lok Sabha elections, said Swaran Singh Pandher, Chairman, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee.

He said, our protests would continue over our major demands of release of three farmers held by the Haryana police and guarantee for minimum support price (MSF) on 23 crops besides guarantee of 200 days’ work to labourers and increase in their wages.

We are unnecessarily being defamed for blocking the roads and causing inconvenience to the public, it is the security forces who have blocked the roads.  The government is trying to weaken the agitation of the farmers, said Pandher.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) leaders had also announced to PM Modi by showing him black flags.
