Ferozepur, August 10, 2024 – A seminal seminar organized by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) at Kisan Bhawan, Chandigarh, brought together legal and agricultural luminaries to dissect the far-reaching implications of three contentious laws introduced by the Government of India.

Senior Advocate RS Bains, a veteran of the Supreme Court and High Court, pointed out the unusual drafting process, which bypassed the Ministry of Law and Justice in favor of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He, along with fellow experts Gurmohan Singh and Kamlesh Vashisht, warned that these laws erode citizens’ rights, flout constitutional norms, and disregard previous Supreme Court rulings.

The seminar’s second session focused on the critical issue of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and agricultural policies. Renowned experts Dr. Davinder Sharma and Professor Prakash Kammareddy presented successful models from Karnataka and Kerala, where MSP policies have significantly benefited farmers without imposing undue financial burdens on the government.

Key farmer leaders, including Sarwan Singh Pandher, Jagjit Singh Dalewal, and Manjit Singh Rai, attended the seminar, which aimed to educate and empower farmer leaders on the potential consequences of these laws.
