Excise Deptt destroys unclaimed 7,000 ltrs ‘lahan’
Ferozepur, May 5, 2021: Launching a crackdown against the bottlegging and smuggling of illicit liquor, a joint raid by excise and police teams was conducted at the hideouts in the enclaves of river Satluj in the surrounds of village Ali ke and Chandiwala.
It is added that during April, 2021, 1,82,850 ltrs ‘lahan’ and 458 ltrs illicit liquor recovered. During the month of May, 16,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ and 500 bottles of illicit liquor was recovered and destroyed being unclaimed and to avoid its misuse.
It is pertinent to mention that a majority of the population settled along the banks of Sutlej River belongs to minority communities and most male members of the village are daily-wagers. These people have not been getting any lucrative employment offers and hence taking up illicit liquor trade to make both ends meet.
The raids were conducted under the supervision of EI Gurbaksh Singh along with district police and approximately 7,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ and destroyed on the spot, being unclaimed. However, 7 tarpaulins, 4 iron drums, were taken into custody. Police authorities have been informed to proceed further in this recovery.
