Excise and Police teams jointly recovered and destroyed 23,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ on the spot
Ferozepur, November 8, 2020 : Under the special campaign against extracting and sale of illicit liquor, the Excise and Police sleuths working actively on the tip-offs, in a crackdown drive, in village Habib Ke along with Sutlej River, recovered 23,000 ltrs ‘lahan’.
The excise department has come to action through its various special campaign and Red Rose operation, after the hooch tragedy in Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts, taking more than 100 lives and recovered huge quantity of illicit liquor from the villages touching the Sutlej River.
Giving this information, Excise and Taxation Officer, Karambir Mahla said, iIn today’s raid in this context, an Excise raid conducted by excise ad police teamsin the enclaves of River Sutlej around general area of Village Habibke, approximately 23,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ was recovered which was destroyed on the spot. Besides, the equipments used for extracting the liquor – 23 tarpaulins, 7 iron drums, 4 aluminum utensils and 4 plastic pipes were also recovered and taken into custody.
He said, the campaign against drugs will be intensified and those involved in illegal liquor trade will not be spared to face the music of law.
Further action has been initiated for registration of FIR under the relevant Sections of Excise Act and further probing said excise official. No arrest could be made as none of the persons were available as most of time of raids, he added.
Sources said most illegal production of liquor cases was in rural areas due to costlier availability of liquor and most the recoveries had been made during special drives and joint raids by the police and excise officials based on inputs of tip-offs.
