DTF Punjab to support call by 10 CTUs for strike on May 22
Ferozepur, May 17, 2020: The Democratic Teachers Front – DTF, in its meeting held today under the tutelage of Rajdeep Singh, District President and Balraj Sharma, District Secretary, decided to support a call for strike given on May 22 by 10 Central Trade Unions – CTU, against the ‘tsunami-like issues’ of anti-labour policies of the central and state governments, to express their concern and register their protest.
Speaking to media persons, DTF Punjab spokesmen said, the Centre and State governments taking the advantage of corona pandemic are taking number anti-labour decisions – economic cuts, retrenchment, reduction in wages, end of labour law, enhancing the working time from 8 to 12 hours, suspending 38 labour laws for three years, freezing the DA instalment of more than 4 crore government and semi-government employees to withdraw Rs.2.5 lakh crore, a fraudulent package of Rs.20 lakh crore, out of 8 crore displacement of crores of migrant workers, deaths of migrants going on foot, no provision for the livelihood of 45 crore unorganized workers in times of crisis, saying no to wages to the workers by the factories, and increasing graph of poverty.
Giving more information, Jaswinder Bahtinda, State Finance Secretary, DTF said, accepting the call from CTU, we have decided to support them in strike call for May 22.
He made an appeal to all cadres to participate in the demonstrations at the different places in the State to register their protest against the anti-labour policies of the central government. Further said, the central government by allowing the hundred per cent foreign direct investment – FDI is an agenda to support the corporate houses for spreading the poison of communalism which continued unabated.
Expressing their concern, he said, a big war has knocked the people and there is no scope to be lazy in fighting with it and to be united has become the need of the hour.
