DSP arrested in Ferozepur on corruption charges
Ferozepur, December 11, 2023: Today, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Surinder Bansal has been arrested on corruption charges by the local police in Ferozepur.
Three months ago, Bansal levelled accusations against 10 police personnel including a local SHO for involvement in illicit drug activities and connections with drug mafia.
DSP(D) had been arrested and further investigation was on. DSP had been arrested per Supreme Court guidelines underlined in the Cr PC Section 41 and its sub-clauses.
As per the information, DSP was not cooperating with the police during the investigation and allegedly trying in influence the witnesses in the face. The Section 41 CrPC and its sub-clauses (4) reads – Where such person, at any time, fails to comply with the terms of the notice or is unwilling to identity himself, the police officer may, subject to such orders as may have been passed by a competent Court in this behalf, arrest him for the offence mentioned in the notice.
As per the FIR, the DSP had taken a bribe through one of his accomplices, Gurmej Singh who had earlier been booked under Sections 420, 46, 467, 468 and 741 of the IPC but was declared innocent by the DSP during the investigation.
