DSP among 12 cops booked on High Court directions over woman’s detention
Ferozepur, November 17, 2019: Twelve policemen, including a serving DSP, have been booked under Section 167, 323, 343, 120B IPC on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a 2017 case pertaining to alleged illegal detention and torture of a woman.
The court had directed to book the then Ferozepur Cantonment police station incharge Rakesh Kumar now posted as DSP in Bathinda now and 11 others for the alleged illegal confinement and torture of the complainant, Simranjit Kaur, a resident of Bathinda in June 2017.
It is alleged in the complaint that she was kept in illegal confinement and subjected to torture during her confinement besides implicated in a false case. However, after getting bail from SDM, she was admitted in Government Medical College Faridkot and procure MLR.
She had further said that seeking no relief at the lower level, she moved to the court to get justice and filed a writ petition. Later, the court directed that a criminal case to be registered against the then Inspector Rakesh Kumar and 11 other police personnel.
According to DSP Rakesh Kumar, he had acted within the provisions of the law and she was booked and arrested under Section 109 of the CrPC for moving around in a suspicious manner in the area. However, no arrest has so far been made in this case.
